Live music - Jazz at Symposium with The Mark Filsinger Trio

Live music, Friday 7/12 with the very talented Mark Filsinger trio - with Mark on Trumpet, Greg Millar on guitar and Paul La Duca on bass.

Mark Filsinger is a versatile trumpet performer, composer, arranger, and clinician. Mark has performed and toured around the United States with various jazz, classical, and commercial ensembles including Bright Eyes, The Who, Weird Al Yankovic, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Johnny Mathis, the Beach Boys, and The Temptations.  

In 2022, The Mark Filsinger Chamber Big Band released its debut album, Groovin’ High on Buffalo Jazz Collective Records. The album features nine of Mark’s original arrangements and compositions. Mark also serves as Associate Professor of Music at SUNY Buffalo State.

Paul La Duca has performed or recorded with with James Moody, Joshua Redman, Sam Falzone, Bobby Militello, Dave Shiavone, Mark Turner, Don Menza, Scott Hamilton , Ellis Marsalis, Al Tinney, Michael LeDonne, Jimmy Knepper, Delfaeyo Marsalis, Donald Byrd, Roy Hargrove, Chuck Mangione, Sam Noto , Mark Elf, Kurt Rosenwinkle , Louis Marino, Kenny Washington, Eddie Locke, Nancy Kelly, Dodo Greene, Michael Civisca , Wendell Rivera and many, many others. Beginning his jazz studies in 1984 on bass with Greg Pointek in Buffalo, he went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music, where he studied double bass under Whit Browne. After tours with the Berklee Collegiate All Stars and alto saxophonist Christopher Hollyday he moved to New York where he freelanced for 5 years.

Greg Millar has been a mainstay guitarist on the Buffalo Jazz scene for decades having performed with nationally known ensembles such as Birthright, Multi-Jazz Dimensions and Buffalo’s Best-Kept Secret. He has also been a feature artist with a diverse group of musicians such as trombonist Roswell Rudd, organist Charles Earland, saxophonist Bill Easley and Trumpeter Lester Bowie.
